Ronaldo reacts to Zidane’s decision
The Portuguese star was seen muttering various words under his breath as he made his way towards the dugout.

Furthermore, Ronaldo couldn’t even look at Zidane and his sulk lasted for several more minutes as he watched the closing stages of the match from the sidelines.

But what was the Real Madrid star saying?

Mourinho tells Rooney to focus on his game not teammates

Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho has cautioned Wayne Rooney to worry about his form instead of correcting his teammates.

The Red Devils captain was left out of the squad that defeated Leicester City at Old Trafford and faces the task of regaining his place in the squad.

Wayne Rooney told to worry about his form instead of correcting his teammates
According to the Sun, Mourinho had a one on one private meeting with the 30-year-old at the training ground where he told him about addressing other players.

The Portuguese tactician said that the former Everton striker cannot complain about anyone else’s performance until he gets his own game back on track.

During half time of the Manchester derby when United were trailing by 2-1, Rooney had strong words with his teammates after being out played by their city rivals.

The England captain also struggled against Northampton in the EFL Cup third round tie before he was dropped for the match against Premier League defending champions.

Rooney will be starting games from the bench for Man United
Mourinho disclosed that Rooney was dropped because he needed the younger legs of Marcus Rashford and Jese Lingard while Juan Mata played into the captain’s number 10 role.

Rooney should be back into the first team squad in United’s visit of Zorya Luhansk in the Europa League but will likely be axed for their trip to Stoke City at the Britannia.

Rooney is United second all-time top scorer with 374 goals since joining the Red Devils in the summer of 2004.

Angry Conte vows to fire Cahill and Ivanovic

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is reportedly going to sell Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic.

A masterful first half performance by Arsenal saw the Gunners defeat Chelsea 3 – 0 at the Emirates stadium on Saturday, September 24.

Branislav Ivanovic

A first league win over the Blues since October 2011 moves Arsene Wenger’s team up to third in the table behind Manchester City and Tottenham.

The Daily Mail (UK) reports that Gary Cahill and Branislav Ivanovic were responsible for the defeat and Conte hopes to replace them.

The source stated that despite the signing of David Luiz and Marcos Alonso last transfer window, Conte wants to sign two centre-backs and a full-back in January 2017.

The Italian could sign Michael Keane from Burnley and Middlesbrough’s Ben Gibson.

Biafra: Nnamdi Kanu's trial begins today

The trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu is set to commence today, September 26, at the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The IPOB leader is facing three criminal charges alongside two others – Benjamin Madubgwu and David Nwawuisi -before Justice John Tsoho.

Kanu’s trial suffered a setback on June 20, when the second defendant in the matter, Madubugwu sacked the counsel Chuks Muoma, representing him in the case.

The second defendant on the same date also informed the court that a new counsel and senior advocate of Nigeria Amobi Nzelu will continue with his legal representation.

Having announced his appearance for the second defendant, Nzelu further prayed the court to permit him substantial time to study the court earlier proceedings on the matter.

Unfortunately, Nzelu was later sacked by the second defendant after his statement at a press briefing that the IPOB group had no link with the militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers.

This means that the second defendant having sacked his new counsel is expected to appear in court today with a new legal representative.

Meanwhile, just yesterday, the IPOB leaders and the other defendants petitioned the chairman of the National Judicial Council (NJC), seeking for an investigation into two different and conflicting rulings giving by Justice Tsoho on the protection of prosecution witnesses in the matter.

In the petition written by Ifeanyi Ejiofor on behalf of the IPOB leader said that Justice Tsoho in the ruling breached judicial oath by taking an oral application from the federal government in a matter he had already ruled on.

FG begs US to lift its ban on the importation of Nigeria’s crude

THE Federal Government has pleaded with the United States to lift its ban on the importation of Nigeria’s crude, describing the action as antithetical to the flourish of trade and economic cooperation upon which Africa Growth and Opportunity Act, AGOA, was founded.

The Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Nigige, who made the plea, also told the American government to demonstrate stronger commitment to improve economic ties with African nations through balanced trade relations. Senator Ngige made the plea at a Ministerial Roundtable meeting on Africa Growth and Opportunity Act at the Department of Labour Building, Washington D.C, United States.

He said the stoppage of Nigeria’s crude importation had led to low foreign exchange receipts and consequent technical recession in some African countries. Ngige, who led Nigeria’s delegation at the meeting to the round table, titled Trade and Worker Rights: Inclusive Economic Growth in Africa Through Trade on the Day One of the Roundtable, said the capacity of Nigeria to tackle anti-labour practices, such as child labour, cheap labour and human trafficking, was being hampered by dwindling resources, which the stoppage of the import of the Nigerian crude by the US had accentuated.

He said poverty at the low income levels made the fight against anti-labour practices at the base difficult. He urged the US to assist African countries in the entire agricultural value food chain of production, processing and preservation as well as give increase educational assistance to farmers.

He said: “The founding ideal of AGOA is to foster a symbiotic economic cooperation between Africa and the United States. However, the capacity of the Africa nations such as Nigeria to effectively tap into the full potentials of the body is being checkmated by limited resources. “There is need therefore for America to rethink initiatives that once made AGOA attractive to African countries. ‘’Rescinding her decision on Nigerian crude is one of such steps that could be taken to buoy up our economy and regain enough capacity to protect workers rights and promote decent work in an inclusive economic growth. “The US must do more to assist junior partners by extending some labour projects and technical aide being executed in some African countries such as Madagascar, Zambia and Kenya to Nigeria.”

Speaking further on Nigeria’s initiatives for improving internationally recognized workers right, the Minister said Nigeria had ratified and domesticated eight core conventions of the International Labour Organization, ILO, dealing with child rights and fair labour practices, drawing the attention of the international community to the strong backing for fundamental freedoms and labour rights enshrined in the constitution, especially in section 40.

Earlier in his address of welcome, the US Secretary of Labour, Tom Perez, pledged the commitment of the United States to the growth of AGOA and urged African countries to strive towards the recognition of workers rights as an essential element of inclusive economic growth

Biafra: No room for referendum - Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has advised Biafra activists to toe the path of democracy by joining a political party to advance their interest within a united Nigeria.

According to him, a referendum, which some of the agitators are clamouring for, is unlikely.

The President stated this at the weekend during a news conference in New York to mark the end of his visit to United States for the 71st United Nations’ General Assembly (UNGA).

“What I see is those who feel strongly about creating a state within Nigeria, rather than joining a party and campaigning. You cannot practice democracy by creating a state within Nigeria,” Buhari said.

The President also addressed a claim that his nephew, Alhaji Mamman Daura, takes decisions for him on national affairs. He said the rumour was from an online medium.

“I don’t know where they get that information from. I stood for the election; I visited every local government in Nigeria by air, by road and so on, and was credibly elected. So, whosoever feels like (I’m not the president) he lost somehow. That’s his problem, not my problem,” he said.

While acknowledging the attention the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) campaigners attract to the plight of the missing Chibok girls, the President urged the media to also focus on the plight of those affected by the Boko Haram insurgency.

He said: “More than 20,000 people were affected by the Boko Haram insurgency. Some are now orphans. Some children don’t even know where their parents are, let alone knowing where they’re from. I think this should get your attention more than the over 200 Chibok girls.

“Those who took them claim they’re there and alive. It’s a question of negotiating and maybe give them what they want and they’ll release them. We’re negotiating, we’re doing everything we can get them out, so they should be patient.”

In a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the President reviewed all his major and side events during the trip and highlighted the issues on which he sent a clear and direct message to world leaders.

He said: “I mentioned that the plight of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) arising from Boko Haram terrorism is of particular concern to us. For this reason, we have taken concrete steps to address their humanitarian needs and to ensure that necessary conditions are established to enable the voluntary return of the displaced persons to their homes in safety and dignity.”

While acknowledging that Nigeria as a developing country has been adversely affected by the global economic downturn, he said Nigeria is undeterred and has embarked on a wide range of reforms to diversify the economy and shift emphasis to mining, agriculture, industrialization, infrastructure development and the creation of the enabling environment for Foreign Direct Investment.

He also noted that fighting corruption remained prime importance to his administration.

The campaign, he said, is already yielding positive gains including significant stolen assets recoveries.

Rangers win Nigeria Professional Football League title

Rangers International of Enugu have emerged as the champions of the Nigeria Professional Football League for the 2015/16 season.

The Flying Antelopes beat Ikorodu United 2-1 away from home at the MKO Abiola Stadium on Sunday to end their 32-year wait for silverware.

Obinna Nwobodo with a stunning strike and Chisom Egbuchulam scored first half goals to help Rangers clinching the League title with a game left to spare.

Wikki Tourists and Rivers United who were all in the hunt for the league shield also failed to get the desired results in their respective games.

While Wikki lost 1-0 in Ibadan against Shooting Stars, Rivers United lost the initiative as they could only play a barren draw at home against Abia Warriors.

Rangers with the win in Abeokuta have an unassailable 60 points.

FG to tackle militancy with 31,000 jobs annually

As part of efforts to tackle the rising wave of insurgency across the country, the Federal Government in partnership with New Era Communication Ltd, says it will create 31, 000 jobs annually to address restive youths in the nation.

The Project Director of Graduate Internship Scheme, GIS, Mr. Dennis Chukwu, stated this at the end of a three-day workshop tagged Career Development Entrepreneurship Skills, organised by the Federal Ministry of Finance in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Represented by Mrs. Josephine Chukwu, the Project Director said that the Federal Government intends to use the workshop to bring youths together and enlighten them on the need to depend less on white collar jobs and go more for jobs that would make them employers of labour.

He said: “The intention of government is to ensure that youths depend less on white collar jobs that make them sit tight, agitating for resource control and all that, if they don’t get it.

“We want to open their eyes to be self reliant and not dependent on government to employ them, and in a way, tackle the rising wave of insurgency in the country which is not profitable to government and the society. So, the essence of this programme is to help them think outside the box and make them see that they don’t need white collar jobs to succeed.” Also speaking, a facilitator at the training,

Mr. Idris Sodiya, explained that the programme started 10 years ago and down the line, the 31, 000 participants out of 41, 000 are exiting the scheme to become self-employed and employers of labour.

Naira plunges to 440 to 1 dollar

The naira was sold at the parallel market for 440 per dollar on Sunday, as the lingering foreign exchange scarcity increased to a new level.

The local currency, which closed at 436/dollar on Thursday, eased to 435 in the early hours of Friday. It closed at 439/dollar.

The naira had closed at 428 to the greenback on Wednesday, down from 424 on Tuesday, as lingering foreign exchange shortage weighed on the economy.

The latest declines in the naira value started on Wednesday, a day after the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Monetary Policy Committee retained the benchmark lending rate at 14 per cent.

The MPC had after its two-day bi-monthly meeting left the Monetary Policy Rate unchanged, rebuffing calls for rates cut by analysts, stakeholders and some government officials, including the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun.

However, economic and currency analysts have said the decline in the value of the local currency against the dollar has nothing to do with the MPC decision.

At the interbank market, the naira closed at 307.79 on Friday. It closed at 307.25, 311 and 312 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday respectively, according to data posted on the FMDQ OTC platform.

“There is shortage of dollar supply. Diaspora remittances have dropped. This is why you can see the rate dropping at the parallel market,” an economic analyst and Chief Executive Officer, Cowry Asset Management Limited, Mr. Johnson Chukwu, said.

The development came amid depleting external reserves, which stood at $24.8bn last Monday.

The latest data posted on the CBN website showed that the foreign exchange reserves were down by 3.4 per cent from a month ago to its lowest level in more than 11 years, as the apex bank sells the greenback at the interbank market to support the naira.

Economic and currency analysts had said there had been no significant policy response to the fall in the reserves, further fuelling the concerns.

The Association of Bureau De Change Operators of Nigeria had said the naira would recover by Monday due to the introduction of Travelex, a licensed forex dealer.

Travelex, an international money transfer organisation, would begin to distribute forex to the BDC operators on Monday (today).

The President, ABCON, Alhaji Aminu Gwadabe, said the forex distribution would be efficient and uniform across ABCON members, unlike what was obtainable in the past.

According to him, Travelex has the technology to sell forex to about 1,000 BDCs in a couple of hours, which is a major advantage.

Bola Tinubu demands immediate resignation of APC Chairman, Oyegun

All Progressives Congress, APC national leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has demanded the resignation of the national chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun who he claimed Sunday had derailed from the path of progressives.

In a stinking communiqué from his media office, Tinubu accused Oyegun of sabotaging the will of democracy in Ondo State by overriding the decision of the appeal panel that asked for a fresh governorship primary following investigations that showed that the delegates’ list used had been tampered with.

Tinubu in the communiqué further alleged that Oyegun’s action in allegedly subverting the will of the people was not of his doing, saying that for a man of the age of the national chairman to have done what he did that he must have been under the influence of a “powerful and sinister arm at work.”

Tinubu in the communiqué further alleged that Oyegun’s action in allegedly subverting the will of the people was not of his doing, saying that for a man of the age of the national chairman to have done what he did that he must have been under the influence of a “powerful and sinister arm at work.”

“The APC, a party born of the quest for democratic good governance, is under critical threat by those who managed to be in the party but never of it. From the party’s inception, the principles of democratic fairness and justice were to guide APC internal deliberations. Party founders realized that only by intramural fair dealing could the party remain faithful to the progressive ideals that we presented to the Nigerian electorate as our governing creed. If the party could not justly govern itself, it would find it difficult to establish and maintain just government throughout the nation.

“In essence, the party was the embodiment of a democratic promise made between its members as well as a democratic vow made to the public. Evidently, some errant members believe promises and vows are mere words to be easily spoken and more easily broken.  Chairman John Oyegun has breached these good pledges in a most overt and brazen display. In doing so, Oyegun has dealt a heavy blow to the very party he professes to lead. It is an awful parent who suffocates his own child for the sake of a few naira. The party was supposed to buttress APC members elected to government at all levels. Because of Oyegun’s conduct of our affairs, the party is rapidly becoming an albatross to those it was meant to help.

“Oyegun’s comportment regarding the Ondo State primary will become the textbook definition of political treachery and malfeasance of the basest order. In early September, the state primary was held. A purported winner was named. Having faith in the ways of the party, Tinubu publicly accepted what he assumed to be a verdict honestly derived.  As a democrat, one must face the possibility of defeat and accept such as outcome with as much grace as one would embrace victory. One of the few bright spots during the conduct of the primaries was Jigawa Governor, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar. He chaired the primary convention with decorum and impartiality.  He was unaware that a tampered list had been slipped into the process.

“Indeed within hours of the announcement, news began to filter in that gravely disturbed me. Credible allegations of fraud troubled the waters. The delegate list had been materially altered by someone in a strategic position to so do. The names of over 150 valid delegates were excised to make room for an equal number of impostors. This was not a clerical error. The alteration was wilfully executed that the primary would be directed toward a chosen end that bore nothing in common with the will of most state party members. A cunning few had tried to deceive the many into believing they were outnumbered.

“A conspiracy to steal the Ondo primary had been uncovered. Fortunately, the grand deception afoot had been unable to cover its tracks fast enough. Truth began to cry for justice.

“Several candidates filed petitions contesting the result. The party established an investigative board to review the evidence. In a two to one decision, the panel found the delegate roster had suffered tampering. The panel recommended that a new primary should be held using the valid delegate list. This recommendation was tabled before the National Working Committee (NWC).

“After many hours of deliberations spanning several days, a final vote was held by the NWC. Before hand, NWC members agreed that the decision of the majority would become the stance of the party. Such is the way of democracy. The NWC voted six against five to cancel the fraudulent results and hold an honest primary. For a moment, it seemed the party would restore its integrity by giving democracy a chance. However, those who sought to scam an entire state would not let the vote of 11 people spoil their enterprise.

“After the NWC vote, a noticeably agitated Chairman Oyegun proposed the NWC engage in prayer before concluding the meeting. Adhering to this chairman’s request, NWC members began to pray.

Seeing that the others had taken his bait, Oyegun used the prayerful interlude to secretly excuse himself from the meeting. Contravening the NWC decision and in violation of all rules of fundamental decency, Oyegun decided to safeguard the fraud done in Ondo by perpetrating a greater fraud. Oyegun arrogated to himself the right to submit the name of Rotimi Akeredolu to INEC as the candidate of the party. “Truth has finally come to light.

There exists a regressive element in the party that cares nothing for the progressive ideas upon which this party was founded. They joined the APC because it was the best ride available at the time. Now they want to guide the party into the ditch. They want to turn the party into a soulless entity incapable of doing good, just like they are.  When such a person tastes power, they shed all good restraint. They come to abuse the trust given them as if they are the owners of that trust and not its mere custodians.

These people did little to build the party but now will do much to wreck it. “Our party was to stand for change. Oyegun and his fellows seem to be on a different wave length. They are the cohort of Unchange. The APC wants to guide Nigeria into a better tomorrow. Oyegun and the cohort of unchange want to pull Nigeria back into the past where rigging and vote stealing were the old and new testaments of politics. They want the people to think that there is no alternative to their reactionary system of skewed politics and imperious government.

Thus, they seek to turn the APC into a factory of the very political malpractices the people soundly rejected in the past election. To choke the APC in this manner is to kill the chance for progressive reform for the foreseeable future. Much more than the Ondo primary is at stake. Oyegun has revealed his team’s game plan: It is the destruction of progressive politics and governance on behalf of the people.

“As party chairman, Oyegun was supposed to protect our internal processes and be an impartial arbiter, a person in whom all had confidence. Instead, he donned the garment of a confident man, duping the NWC, the party, and INEC in one fell blow. He has robbed APC members in Ondo State of the chance to pick in a fair manner who they believe is the best candidate.

“As such, he has broken faith with the party and probably has broken a few laws. The consequences of what he has done are more expansive than a man of his scope can fathom,” Tinubu said as he said that Oyegun must have been under some major sinister influence as to allow what happened.

“With strong expectation, we await a response to Oyegun’s wrongdoing from those who clamored so long and loudly about Tinubu’s alleged role in the Ondo primary.

“Leading into the primary, a prominent lawyer from Ondo published lengthy missives alleging that Tinubu was a malicious hand intent on rigging the primary. His letters spoke of his great love for democracy and justice. Though Oyegun has assaulted democracy in a most public and vulgar way, this lawyer’s prolific pen will remain stilled. He dare not publish a word about this travesty. His silence will be sign for all who care to decipher its meaning.

“The plan was to point the accusing finger at Tinubu. With everyone focused on Tinubu, they would have distracted all attention from the heist they had set in motion. As fate would have it, the trickery they hoped to conduct in the shadows has come to light.

“Those who so actively attributed imaginary wrong to Tinubu now stand dumb and mute in the face of confirmed impropriety. They remain silent for reasons they cannot divulge. Oyegun and his ilk turn out to be gangsters adorned in the tunic of party authority.

“Oyegun has engaged in the strange math where five is greater than six. This smacks of how the PDP conducted its affairs and orchestrated its own downfall. Tinubu disparaged such malpractice when it was not in his party. Tinubu surely disowns it now that it has invaded the party he helped bring to fruition.

“Tinubu has consciously refused to hold any official position with the party to avoid the perception that he was trying to control all and sundry. Tinubu has even kept his peace for some time despite many things that happened within the party that were not quite right. He exercised this forbearance because the party is young.  A collective endeavor cannot avoid the mistakes and errors of organizational newness and evolution.

“Yet, the wrongs Oyegun committed had nothing to do with newness or the mistakes occasioned by the path of reform. His actions are in the nature of the old wrongs that have afflicted our national politics much too long. If Oyegun wants to walk backward into the past, he has every right to it. However, he has no right to drag the party or any of us with him. Against our choosing.

“The informal title of national leader of the party was given to Tinubu  at the onset which he accepted it as a sign from those who wished to recognize my contributions to the party’s formation. It is an honorific title which he has been proud to wear until today. I would rather not have any title yet reside in a party that honors democracy than hold a title in a party that says it honors me but that treats justice with indecency. I find greater honour and comfort where democracy and fairness are found and respected.

“Oyegun has done the irredeemable. His coup is an insult to party and to patriot, to reason and to the reform agenda of this government.  To remain silent would be to admit the defeat of the reform and progressive change many have labored to bring forth. While the forces resistant to change and reform are strong, Tinubu dare not submit to them.  Tinubu encourages all party members not to submit to them. If we acquiesce in this wrong, the one greater than this shall cascade upon us.

“Oyegun’s transgressions are a warning. He is but the mercenary of forces that seek to return the nation to the old ways. If they get away with this infraction, no telling what or whom they will undermine tomorrow. Much is at stake. On the chopping block, lies the future of the political party in which the majority of voters had placed their confidence. To rescue the party, Oyegun must go. He has shown that he and democratic fair play cannot exist in the same party at the same time. If Tinubu is to choose between John Oyegun and progress toward a better Nigeria, the choice has already been made. For those who care about the party, who care about Nigeria and its chance for a better tomorrow, now is the time to stand against this brewing evil before it grows to encompass all we have built and all we hold dear.”
