Abia Speaker, Martins Azubuike, Impeached

The aggrieved lawmakers elected Kennedy Njoku, representative of Osisioma Ngwa north constituency, to take over the leadership of the assembly.

Azubuike, a three-term lawmaker, was said to have fallen out with the powers that be in the state.

He was elected speaker in June; and in just the following six months, he has survived at least four impeachment threats.

Prior to the impeachment, Clinton Uba, Azubuike’s chief press secretary, said his boss did not commit any impeachable offence.

“Mr. Speaker is innocent. An attempt to impeach the speaker, who has been carrying every member along can only heat up the polity,” he had told Sun.

“The sixth assembly has been the most peaceful, despite its composition.

“The speaker has also been very supportive to the executive. Until we get to the house and see the alleged impeachment notice, I will be guided in my response but, I can confirm to you that the plot to remove my boss is no longer secret. My advice to the aggrieved members is to have a rethink and place the interest of the state above self.”

Igbo And Fulani Clash In Enugu Over N100. Two Killed, Mosque Burnt

Two persons lost their lives in a bloody clash between Igbos and Fulanis at the popular Gariki market, in Enugu. The incident occurred on Wednesday night.

Our correspondent learnt, during a visit to the market on Thursday, that the deceased persons had been identified as Ali, a Fulani and Ifeacho Ifeanyi, an Igbo. It was equally gathered that the clash was triggered by a disagreement over the sum of N100.

Eye witnesses disclosed that trouble started when, late on Wednesday evening, the said Ali, whose surname could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report, came to slaughter a cow at an abattoir located in the Gariki market.

They said Ali, who ordinarily would have gone to slaughter his cow in the New Artisan market abattoir, opted for Gariki market abattoir because the New Artsisan market had been closed by the Enugu State Government following the killing of a policeman by a mob of Keke NAPEP riders.

However, Ali, paid N400 instead of the required N500, which infuriated Ifeanyi, leading to a dispute.

The dispute between the two men over the said N100 soon turned violent, and in the ensuing fight, Ali allegedly brought out a dagger and stabbed Ifeanyi several times in the stomach, exposing his intestines.

Ifeanyi slumped and died on the spot.

But Ali met his own end immediately, as some Igbo traders, who were enraged at the development, apprehended him as he tried to escape and beat him to death.

The irate Igbo traders went further by burning a mosque that is located inside the Gariki market, where the large population of Northerners in the market worshipped.

Our correspondent gathered that the crisis would have further degenerated to the burning of shops and loss of more lives, had it not been for a team of anti-riot policemen who arrived at the market to stabilise the situation.

Spokesman for the Enugu State Police Command, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the development, said the police had restored normalcy in the market and environs.

He said the police was on the ground to prevent further breakdown of the law and order. Amaraizu added that the police was investigating the incident.

Action thriller :- TARASHA Season1 Episode21a

TARASHA
EPISODE 21A
Cole quivered as he got up from the bed, blood
pumped in his heart abnormal at a speed faster
than that of Usain Bolt. The first time he ever
had a nightmare was in his University days,
when a dreaded cult group was after his life
because of a girl that was in love with him.
This time around, he dreamt that he was being
given a hot chase by the Rivers State
Governor’s body guards. He outsmarted them
and hid in an uncompleted building where he
slept off for hours, only for him to open his eyes
and find several guns pointed at him by a group
of policemen.
He glanced at Benny who was sleeping
peacefully on the left side of the bed despite
the hot condition of the room. He took off his
wet shirt and proceeded out of the room bare
chested, using the shirt to fan himself. He first
headed into the kitchen to quench his thirst
after which he proceeded out of the house with
an extra cup of water to seek fresh air in the
compound.
He got a little surprised when he met the door
unlocked but he shook off his fears, his mind
suggesting to him that Tarasha must be the one
outside
He was right! There in the middle of the
compound was a female figure lying flat on the
long bench that used to be at the verandah, she
seemed to be busy with something and didn’t
notice his presence. He tiptoed carefully
towards her, trying his possible best not to
announce his presence.
He stopped halfway when he saw her insert a
magazine into the revolver she was playing with,
she seemed to also halt with his movement. He
was contemplating whether to turn back or not
when his name was called.
‘Cole’ he quivered at the sound of his name, still
on the same spot, he watched her unload the
gun before he proceeded further.
She rose from her sleeping position and sat up,
smiling at Cole who stared at her funnily.
‘Why were you scared?’ She asked mockingly.
‘You loaded your gun like you wanted to aim at
something, I was scared that you didn’t know I
was the one coming’ he answered, feeling
slightly embarrassed.
‘I knew it was you and I wasn’t planning to
shoot’ she collected the cup of water from him
and drank slowly.
Cole watched her taking in the water, like a kid
who was already dying of thirst. He had the
opportunity to notice her very young face, she
looked like an innocent girl in her early twenties.
Her face was the youngest he had ever seen
involved in the assassination business, several
of her mates he has seen involving themselves
in crime only participated in petty robbery and
as informants.
‘Cole’ she startled him, his eyes was still
hovering round her body in awe.
‘Boss’ he called back, scratching his head as he
looked away.
‘Why are you staring at me like that?’ She
asked.
‘No, nothing. I was just wondering what you
were doing outside here’
‘What else should I be doing? I was sleeping’
she answered.
‘Sleeping? How? I saw you awake when I came
out of the house’
‘You woke me up, I was asleep before you came
out’ she insisted.
‘Asleep? How?’ He looked bewildered. ‘No one
can sleep here with all the mosquitoes around,’
‘Forget about me Cole, you should tell me why
you are awake’ she looked sternly at his face.
‘I couldn’t sleep, my mind has been occupied
with all we did yesterday’ Cole explained his
woe. ‘I can’t seem to figure out how we’ll be
able to accomplish our task here’
‘That’s for me to worry about. I give the plan,
all you need to do is to follow’
He looked at her face in an awkward manner as
if to ask why she way arrogant, or why she
thought she knew everything.
‘Young girl like you, who made you a devil? I
could kill you now if I want to’ He said in his
mind.
‘The greatest mistake you’ll ever make is
dealing with me like the ordinary person my
face projects’ she cautioned immediately add if
she heard his thoughts. ‘You may lose your life
the next time you think that way’
‘Hu..uh’ he stammered and got up shakily from
the bench.
‘Come on, go inside now’ she said in a
command tone. Flinging the cup away, she
returned to her former position on the bench.
Cole hurriedly returned into the house, scared to look back until he entered and closed the door.
He paused to think for a while leaving his back on the door, the sound of his heartbeat echoed in his ears.
Maybe she was more than who he thought she was. She is probably an adult hiding under a younger body or a young girl endowed with diabolical powers.
He tried to calm himself and wave off his thoughts as ridiculous, she wasn't a super human, she was only good at playing smart with their emotions. He decided to put up a bold response if there was a next time, why would he be scared of her anyway? He had worked with several male assassins and none made his heart filled with fear like this.
'Go and sleep Cole, we've a lot to do tomorrow' her voice jerked him into action again, he proceeded to his room with no further delay.
To be continued....

TARASHA
EPISODE 20C
He wasn’t even supposed to escape, the purpose
of the game was to weaken the police force,
that means he had to defeat the team.
The thought alone sent shivers down his spine
and he quickly uttered a prayer that moment.
‘Lord, if it is your will, let this cup pass over me’.
But he wasn’t Christ neither did he follow Christ,
so God would not answer his prayer. He resolved
in his mind to run away if she insisted on setting
him up with the police.
**
Tarasha walked in after ten minutes to meet
Cole, Benny and Aisha already waiting for her in
the sitting room.
‘Good morning Boss’ Benny and Aisha greeted.
‘Good morning’ she answered and took suitable
seat which faced three of them. ‘I hope you guys
are ready for today’s job’
‘Today’s job?’ Aisha spoke lazily, yawning. ‘I
thought we did everything already. We cleaned
the house, cleared the bushes and …’
‘Shut up’ Tarasha scowled angrily, making the
jovial girl shocked. ‘Are you crazy? Do you think
that’s all we came here to do?’
‘I’m sorry ma’ Aisha replied in low tones, greatly
terrified. She wondered what went wrong and
why Tarasha who was friendly with them the day
before had suddenly become cold.
Tarasha got up swiftly, her frown changed into a
smile surprising her audience more.
‘Are you scared?’ She asked laughin loudly,
mocking Aisha who was shaky already. ‘I’m not
angry, I was only teaching you something, learn
to switch your mood as it pleases you, don’t let
your feelings control you. So it’s time to switch
to the work mode’
Aisha heaved a sigh of relief, her rapidly
increased heartbeat speed returned to normal.
The two guys just watched in awe, wishing they
could switch modes like that too.
‘We’ll start real work today’ Tarasha interrupted
their thoughts. ‘We must drop our target, Kelechi
Edwin before the end of the month’
Realization hit them as she walked away,
Tarasha had brought them on a suicide mission.
Killing the governor of Rivers State in office, with
the quality of security surrounding him was an
impossible mission.

TARASHA
EPISODE 20B
‘Yes, that’s it’ Dr Hammed affirmed.
'Good' James smiled as he glanced at the details
written down once again. ‘Do you also remember
now if you saw her do anything suspicious when
she went into the conference room with you?’
‘No, I didn’t see her do anything there. She only
helped me move something from my office into
the room’
‘Alright, I think it’s okay for now’ James got up
from the table again. ‘Thank you for your
cooperation, we’ll get back to you if we need any
other help from you’

**07.11.2030**
*5.30am*
Cole’s mouth was left agape as he watched
Tarasha silently from the window exercising her
body, he was counting the number of pushups
she was doing and she just got to two hundred
without struggling or showing any sign of
tiredness.
He couldn’t hold it anymore, he closed the
curtains and rushed outside to join her. She was
already dusting off herself when he got outside.
He was so disappointed as he hoping to see
more action from her when he got outside.
‘Good morning Cole’ she greeted first, ‘how are
you?’
‘Good morning Boss, I’m fine’ he replied, with a
note of disappointment still hidden in his voice.
‘Why did you stay there peeping for so long
instead of coming to join me?’ Cole was taken
aback by the questioned.
‘How did you know I was peeping?’ He asked.
‘I saw you’ she replied smiling, ‘even if I didn’t
see you, I feel it when a pair of eyes watches
me’
‘Wow! But you didn’t towards the window side at
all?’ He was confused.
‘I didn’t have to look there with my physical
eyes, every part of me including the physical and
non physical pays attention to the environment’
Cole shook his head, he tried to assimilate what
she said but ended up greatly mystified. He
wondered what it would be like if Tarasha comes
against him, he’ll definitely be hopeless and
helpless. Tarasha’s fear increased in his heart
rapidly.
‘I noticed you’re the one who wakes up very
early amongst the three of you’ she disrupted his
thoughts.
‘Yes, I wake up most times before Benny and
Aisha does’ he responded.
‘That’s good’ she said and began walking
towards the well, Cole walked with her. She
suddenly turned and faced him. ‘You have to
learn very well from this operation henceforth’
He stared at her face, the look on her face
sought more explanation to what she started.
‘I have an assignment for you’ she continued,
‘You have to complete the first operation we did’
‘The first operation? Didn’t we finish off the
minister already?’ He asked, puzzled.
‘Yes, we finished off the minister but did not
eliminate every trace’
‘What do you mean?’
‘Listen carefully’ she said sternly, ‘we left some
traces that would be used to find us in the
minister’s operation and it is possible that we
are discovered sooner or later’
‘What? Why? How?’ His heartbeat increased
‘Calm down Cole’ she said and took three steps
further before going on with the discussion. ‘If
anyone is going to trace that murder
successfully, it must be a very competent officer’
‘But…’
‘Shh…’ She hushed, a smile gradually appeared
on her face. ‘Don’t be scared Cole, it’s only a
game, my favorite game and I’m sure you’ll enjoy
it too’
‘How? I don’t understand’
‘Its a game between myself and the police’ she
said and then gave a wicked smile. ‘You, Cole
will be my avatar for this first round’
‘Boss, you’re only confusing further’ Cole was
beginning to get frustrated.
‘I want to weaken the security system in the
state’ She walked further to the well and picked
up the fetching bucket. ‘The trace is only going
to lead a competent officer and his team to our
trap and you will single handedly handle them
when they come. Ot would be done in a way that
would pount directly to you’
‘I’m still confused’ he said.
‘Don’t worry, you’ll understand later’ she said,
drawing out water from the well. ‘Go in and wake
the others, it’s time to reveal or mission here to
you guys’
Cole’s mind was greatly troubled as he walked
away slowly into the house, he tried to figure out what she meant. She mentioned that he was her avatar in the game that might possibly mean that she was playing games with him and his life is in danger.
She also said that she didn't eliminate all traces in the last operation so that the police could trace them and she'd set him up to face the police. That was something he had never done before, he never singlehandedly handled a police team before, he was only good at escaping when the police pursued a group of them and not when he was the only one being pursued.
How on earth was he even going to escape if a team of ten to twenty officers were sent to him?

TARASHA
EPISODE 20 A
**05.12.2030**
‘I don’t remember her name’ Dr. Hammed stated
for the umpteenth time
He was sweating in the air conditioned room
though he was putting on very light clothes, the
endless sessions of interrogation which started
on Saturday had begun to wear him out.
At first, it was the EFCC who started questioning
him on Saturday, their lists of questions never
seemed to end. Several of the officials would
come asking questions, most which he didn’t
have answers to, they would leave after they had
threatened him and didn’t get results, only for a
superior to to show up in a space of two to three
hours with another set of questions when he
thought the session had ended.
He had already sworn to return all the monies he
had stolen and kept in both foreign and Nigerian
banks after the officials at the EFCC cracked
him, so that his judgment in the court would be
tendered with mercy. He now wondered why the
police were after him again, he returned to his
house from the EFCC’s headquarters only to be
welcomed by a letter from the police criminal
investigation department inviting him for another
session of interrogation.
‘We heard that you had an unusual experience on
Friday after the Unilag girl visited’ An Inspector
whose name he found out to be James asked,
another dark skinned inspector was standing
close to him.
‘I didn’t have any unusual experience’ the man
countered.
‘But you slept off during working hours’ James
focused his eyes on him and smiled mockingly.
‘Or is that how you sleep off lazily at work?’
James pushed a button with his statement and it
was visible on Dr. Hammed’s face, he wished he
could land a heavy punch on James’ face but his
situation would only worsen if he acted stupidly.
‘Sorry sir’ James apologized calmly, ‘but we only
want to help you, if you just tell us the truth , it
would make our investigations easier and we
would stop disturbing you’
‘I slept off truly’ Dr Hammed finally gave in. ‘I
think I took something poisonous that day’
‘Did you found out what it was you took?’
‘No, I didn’t have the time. I’ve been very busy’
‘But was sleep the only effect it had on you?’
‘No’ the doctor stuttered for a while. ‘It came
with loss of memory, I didn’t remember some of
the things I did before I slept off’
‘Like two hours before you slept?’
‘Yes’ the doctor glanced at his face suddenly.
‘How did you know the duration of time?’
‘Calm down sir’ James said and stood from the
table he was sitting on. ‘Some of our men had a
similar experience like that recently. For how
long did you sleep that day?’
‘I don’t really remember, but I slept until
someone woke me when it was almost closing
hours’ He paused, licked his lips and continued.
‘But my eyes were still very heavy when I got
home that day, I slept off without even taking
dinner till morning the next day’
‘Hmm, maybe you were poisoned with the same
substance as our men’ James stated, he
returned to his former position on the table.
‘They slept from evening till early the next
morning when they were found’
‘Incredible! Someone must have played far on
me’ the doctor exclaimed, covering his lips with
his two hands.
‘You said you slept off after she visited?’ James
pushed further immediately, taking advantage of
the man’s new mood.
‘I don’t know when she visited, but everyone said
I didn’t come out of the office for several hours
after I went in with her’
‘You see, you need to remember her name so
that we can trace her, she might just be a very
dangerous criminal’ James emphasized.
Dr Hammed remained silent for some minutes, he
cracked his brain furiously for answers. ‘I saw
her name on a notepad she left in my office on
Thursday, I don’t really remember but I know her
first name was not a Nigerian native name’
‘Try harder sir, you can remember’
‘ I’m trying, I don’t just know what happened to
me. Since then I’ve been forgetting things very
quickly’
‘Well, our only hope for now is her name’
The doctor scratched his head, looking at James’
face, a feeling of regret suddenly took over him. He regretted the day he submitted his application to Derl pharmacy, the day he was promoted and started to work closely with Dr. Daniel Umaru and the day he succumbed to doing dubious deals with Dr. Umaru.
Now, he was going to lose all he had gathered all his life, both the ones gotten legally and illegally. The case had prompted EFCC to investigate deeper and they dug out several other dubious deals that Dr. Umaru had done, including his name in the ones he didn't evrn know about. There's no way out for him, the only thing he could get was a very short prison sentence and that was why he decided to give up all his assets.
'Her name is Samantha Osman, she's a 300level pharmacy student of university of lagos' Dr. Hammed recited suddenly, his face glowed as he spoke.
'Samantha Osman, 300level pharmacy student of Unilag' James repeated scribbling it into his notepad..

Olagorioye Faleyimu: TB Joshua to die while Buhari Will Rule For 8 Years

The founder of Mountain of Blessing and Miracle Church of Christ, Dr. Olagorioye Faleyimu, has revealed shocking prophecies for 2017, according to the reports that claim.

He made this known on Christmas Day in his church in Lagos. On Nollywood, he said, “They need to pray like never before so as not to lose another 2 stars before the year runs out.

Without special prayers, Funke Akindele won’t have a child before she dies because she is destined to be wealthy and famous but not destined to have a child and stable husband until she engages herself in the special prayer.

Whosoever marries her must have another reason because the issue of not having a child will keep coming up and it will scatter the marriage. If she refuses to do the prayer, she will end up adopting a child and by that time, she will be living alone without husband. .
Another grace she has is to marry a pastor who can fight the battle on her behalf with prayers.

God told me to tell Gov. Fayose to be careful and he shouldn’t turn himself to God. .

God said he should watch his mouth so as not to end his political career in jail.

PDP will never rule Nigeria again no matter how much they try. APC has 8 years to rule and won’t rule Nigeria again after 2023. .

The world black powers have declared Nigeria as their target and their spirit is what is ruling the country. Most of the pastors in Nigeria belong to this secret society because that is where they get powers to perform miracles. .

God said we are not worshiping him in Nigeria but worshiping money. Buhari isn’t the Messiah. He is sent to punish those ruining Nigeria and he will do that for 8 years. The Messiah is a man of God and he is not in politics yet. .

God said nobody should criticize Buhari’s government because his mission is to set the pace for the Messiah.

T.B Joshua should be prayerful so as not to lose a child before he goes because his time is near. .

Nigerians should not expect change from anyone in government without changing the flag of Nigeria. God said the present flag we are using is a symbol of suffering.”

Father Strangles 14-Year-Old Son In Abuja, Attempts To Poison Daughter

A 44-year-old man, identified as Sunday Ibrahim, has alleged strangled his 14-year-old son, Musa Ibrahim, to death, following the dissolution of the couple’s marriage by a court in Abuja.

His act, which happened in Kabusa village in Apo area of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, was said to be an ‘unimaginable show of heartlessness and an extreme case of hatred for his ex-spouse’, the Sun is reporting.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP, Mohammed Mustapha, confirmed the incident on Friday, saying the court granted the ex-wife custody of the couple’s children.

According to him, Ibrahim’s primary reason for the abominable act was to cause the ex-wife absolute heartbreak and ensure that she would never see the teenage son again.

The CP said, “After killing the son, Ibrahim ran to the house of his uncle, Haruna Isah, who resides at Airport road, Abuja, to confess that he had killed Musa.

“Isah promptly reported the matter at the Ido Police Station. He also arrested Ibrahim and handed him over to the Apo Police Station, from where the case was subsequently transferred to the homicide section of the FCT Criminal Investigation Department of the police command.

“When detectives took Ibrahim back to his residence to conduct a search, they discovered the sandals of the deceased teenager in the father’s room,” the CP stated, assuring that the suspect would be charged to court soon.

Isah, on his part, recalled that he brought him (the suspect) to Abuja and trained him.

He said, “I was aware that his wife was no longer with him again. It was one fateful day that Sunday Ibrahim came to my house early in the morning and confessed to me that he had strangled his son, Musa Ibrahim, and wanted me to help him.

“I was deeply shocked and momentarily confused. When I regained my sense, I quickly ran to Ido police station on airport road to make a report.

“I also arrested him and handed him over to the police. In the statement he made to the police, he said he did it to punish his ex-wife,” Isah confirmed.

Meanwhile, reports say Ibrahim had previously attempted to kill his 17-year-old daughter, Maimuna Ibrahim, by serving her poisoned food, although, she did not eat the food, after which Ibrahim threw the poisoned food away.

Speaking on the incident, Ibrahim’s ex-wife, Zanaib Ibrahim said, “I sued my former husband for divorce and the court dissolved our marriage in 2015.
“The court granted me custody of our six children, to take care of them. But my ex-husband had been monitoring Musa.

“He went to where the boy was learning tailoring and bought him suya and soft drink, which he used to deceive and lure him away and then strangled him.

“He did it to punish me. I waited for my late son but I didn’t see him,” she sobbed and continued, saying, “I went to meet the man who was training him, Umar Maitalata, who told me that my ex-husband took him away after the close of work.

“I called my ex-husband’s phone four times but he refused to pick my calls.

“The following day, I saw him and asked about my late son. He said that the boy was dead; it was somebody who showed me the corpse of my son at Kabusa farm.
“My ex-husband is an evil person and not a responsible husband. He attempted to poison my first daughter Maimuna, but she noticed the poison in the food and did not eat it.

“I want justice to be done over the death of my late son Musa Ibrahim,” she lamented.

In his confession, Ibrahim, an indigene of Adari Local Government Area, Kogi State said, “I was having misunderstanding with my wife.

“She was not contented with the money I gave her. Then, suddenly she packed her things and left my house. She sued for divorce and the court dissolved the marriage.

“So I took our son Musa to Ondo, to hide him there. But she traced him to the place and took him back and registered him to learn tailoring.

“I went to where Musa was learning the trade. I bought suya and soft drink for him and then took him away.
“I strangled my son, Musa, to punish my ex-wife.

“Immediately after killing him, I ran to a native doctor to perform some rituals for me. I also ran to my uncle, Haruna Isah and confessed to him that I had strangled my son and he got me arrested.

“I want my family to forgive me for the evil I have done,” the suspect pleaded.

Fulani Herdsmen Kidnap Female Corper In Kwali, FCT. Demand N15m Ransom - NYSC

Three women including a member of the National Youth Service Corps have been kidnapped by suspected Fulani herdsmen in Kwali Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The victims were said to be travelling in a bus belonging to God is Good Motors on Wednesday when they were robbed at gun point and thereafter marched into the bush. When contacted, Head of Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FCT Police Command), Yemi Ola, confirmed the kidnapping, saying his office had received a report on the case.

He said, “The report was made at Kwali Division from where it was transferred to us. We took a statement from the sister of one of the victims who was inside the vehicle.”

Saturday PUNCH learnt that the kidnappers have demanded N15m ransom from family members of the victims. While they demanded N5m from the family of the two sisters, the kidnappers asked for N10m from the father of Grace Oghene Edegware, a graduate of Accountancy from the Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro, who was deployed by the National Youth Service Corps to Lagos State.

The sister of one of the two victims, Mrs. Florence Chukwuyem, told our correspondent that she had been pleading with the kidnappers to reduce their ransom to N300, 000 as she does not have the N5m they demanded.

She said, “On Wednesday evening, my two sisters (elder and younger) boarded a bus belonging to “God is Good Motors” from Lagos to Abuja; on getting to Kwali, they ran into armed robbers who are all Fulani herdsmen and after a successful robbery operation, they told them to lie down on the expressway.

“The Fulani herdsmen picked and selected three ladies, including a corps member and marched them into the bush. For the past three days, they have been in the bush with the armed robbers.

“The kidnappers called me and demanded N5m ransom and threatened to kill my sisters if I don’t bring the money. That was my last discussion with them some few hours ago. I have been begging them that I have only N300, 000 and yet they refused, saying that is no money.”

The father of the NYSC member, Francis Edegware, also pleaded that the ransom should be reduced.

He said, “The kidnappers are demanding for N10m but we are begging them to bring it down because I am a civil servant and I don’t have that kind of money. I only manage to eat. That is the situation, right now.”

Police Public Relations Officer, Federal Capital Territory Command, ASP Anjuguri Manzah, said he would get back to our correspondent for additional information on the incident.

Man Who Drank Insecticide Over MMM Crash Speaks: "I lost N750,000" - Investment

The young intending groom, Adakole, who drank insecticide over the crash of ponzi scheme, MMM, has opened up on his ordeal.

DAILY POST had earlier reported that Adakole, a native of Ai Okpe in Okpokwu LGA of Benue State whose wedding is slated for December 28 had invested N300 thousand into the scheme last month and was expecting to get his 30 per cent income before his wedding.

Kole, as he is fondly called, attempted to take his life in Otukpo, Benue State by drinking insecticide, last Tuesday following the news that the ponzi scheme had crashed.

Speaking on his ordeal on a radio programme, Weathering the Storm with Naomi De Diva on 92.1 Vision FM Abuja and monitored by DAILY POST on Tuesday, the young man said contrary to the report, he invested N750,000 in the scheme against the N350,000 that was widely reported.

Adakole, who opened up on his predicament during the phone-in programme admitted that he had earlier made profits from the scheme.

He said amid sobs, “I came to Abuja here few months back in preparation for my wedding and my friend introduced me to the MMM thing. He told me about the benefit involved, though I was a bit hesitant about it but he succeeded in convincing me to register under him.

“To be honest, I initially invested 20k into the scheme and I got 30 per cent the following month. The following month, I rendered help of N50k and I still got 30 per cent commission and my full investment back.

“This time, I believed it was real and I decided to increase the money. Before then, my fiancée had warned me against it. So I went to my cooperative to obtain a loan and they gladly gave thinking it was for my wedding. I put in N750k last month, hopping than it would yield 30 per cent income this month only to wake up one morning to discover that my account has been suspended.

“To be sincere, the best option I had then was to take my life, because I had thought of how I am going to face my woman. I didn’t even know when I took the insecticide. It was my guy, Fred who rescued me. My wedding is around the corner, I have been saving the money ahead of the wedding only to end up that way.

“As we speak, I have not set my eyes on my woman. I put off my phone since then because the shame is much. My wedding is 8 days from now and I am confused. I just returned from the hospital. I don’t know what to do.”

Meanwhile, many callers, who phoned in during the programme scolded the young man for attempting to take his life because of money.

Others advised him to get loan from bank for the wedding, while some asked him to put his wedding on hold till January when the scheme might have returned.

Buhari And Ministers Shun South-East Summit After IPOB Threat

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday stayed away from the maiden South-East Economic and Security Summit in Enugu, which started about 48 hours after some pro-Biafra agitators warned him not to set foot in Igboland.

Buhari was meant to be the Chief Guest of Honour at the summit, which held in the Enugu State Government House, according to the programme of the event.

Although the President was expected at the event, as noted by several speakers who spoke during the event, he did not show up, neither was he represented.

Also, ministers from the South-East, who were slated to make presentations at the event, all stayed away.

A pro-Biafra group, the Indigenous People of Biafra, had in the build up to the summit, issued a statement, warning Buhari to stay away from the South-East, in his own interest.

IPOB, whose leader, and director of pirate radio channel, Nnamdi Kanu, is being held by the Federal Government, accused Buhari of ‘persecution’, and threatened ‘a breakdown of law and order’ should the President attend the summit.

While no mention of the IPOB warning was made throughout the opening session of the summit, Buhari’s absence was a major talking point as several speakers expressed surprise, and confusion, at the development.

The Chairman of the South-East Security and Economic Summit, former power minister, Prof. Barth Nnaji, in his opening remarks, observed, “We have not seen the President.”

Later on, in a presentation by the summit committee, Nnaji had to substitute Buhari’s name with that of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who attended the event as the ‘Distinguished Guest of Honour’, in the introductory part of a prepared address where he was to thank Buhari for attending the occasion as the Chief Guest of Honour.

Instead of thanking Buhari for gracing the occasion as the chief guest of honour, as stated in the prepared address, Nnaji thanked Obasanjo for attending the event as the distinguished guest of honour.

Nnaji also thanked the Enugu State government for undertaking to sponsor some aspects of the President’s visit.

The chairman of the event, former Commonwealth Secretary General, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, drew attention to Buhari’s absence.

“I was going to start by saluting the representative of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria but I have not been told of such a person,” the retired diplomat said.

Anyaoku went further to express regrets that Buhari was not present at the event.

Rounding up his address with a call for the restructuring of the country, he said, “I had hoped that Mr. President would be here to hear me.

“Like Cato, the Roman senator who always ended his speeches by calling for the destruction of Carthage until his call was heeded, I will restate my assertion that if the Nigerian federation is restructured to have less federating units, this country will achieve greater stability and faster pace of development, and there will no longer be a need for the Federal Government to bailout many of the non-viable 36 states."

How We Stopped Buhari From Coming To Enugu (IPOB)

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has claimed victory over President Muhammadu Buhari’s scheduled visit to Enugu state.

IPOB in a statement circulated on Thursday, December 22, said the group succeeded in preventing president Buhari from attending the South-East Economic and Security Summit (SEESS) in Enugu.

The group also thanked all its members especially those who participated in the protest.

“The indigenous people of Biafra IPOB worldwide and it's leadership commend the people of Biafra over their supports towards stopping the president Muhamadu Buhari not to attend the economic summit in Enugu today been 22nd December 2016.

We thank everybody who participated in making these efforts a reality because the leader of the indigenous people of Biafra mazi Nnamdi Kanu and other leadership have drafted 2020 men to Enugu who are ready to die with Buhari today in Enugu.

The IPOB spokesperson Powerful Emma said the global community would have had the opportunity to justify the killings and illegal arrest of its members by the Nigerian government had the president visited.

“Therefore, we thank Chukwu Okike Abiama because the federal government would have seen what they have not seen before because we are Biafrans not Nigeria and we know why we choose nonviolent approach towards this noble cause not out of fear,” Emma said.

He further warned some ministers including, Chris Ngige, Ogbonnaya Onu and others against standing in their way.

“This project of Biafra restoration championing by the God ordained leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu is not like other pro Biafra movement where politicians can make jest of, we are for mission, beware Ngige we are not illiterates and drop out as you said and we are not jobless people as you also insinuate.

The Nigeria government and Buhari must release Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and other IPOB members in detention illegally and investigates the amnesty international reports which indicted the security agencies in Nigeria and summit the investigations for the public to see. Let us open their evils committed against the members of IPOB and Biafrans at large,” IPOB said.

President Buhari was scheduled to attend the SEESS in Enugu state today, December 22.

However, the IPOB had issued a warning against the president’s visit.

However, as at the time of this report, it is not clear whether the president would still attend the summit.

Meanwhile, the IPOB expressing their grievance took to the streets of Enugu protesting President Buhari’s visit.

Pictures: Pro-Biafrans Protest Against Buhari's Visit In Enugu

There is tension in Enugu state as members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have embarked on a protest on Thursday. The group said the protest is in agitation of President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to the region today.

President Buhari is set to visit Enugu for an economic and security summit alongside former president Olusegun Obasanjo.

The summit chaired by former minister of power Barth Nnaji will focus of insecurities in the region and possible ways of curbing them.

Woman Beats 10-year-old Girl To Death In Lagos

The police in Lagos State have arrested a middle-aged woman, Linda Alapa, for allegedly beating her 10-year-old housemaid, Joy Mbafan, to death.

Mbafan lived with the suspect on Bolanle Oduniyi Street, Okegbegun, in the Ikorodu area of the state.

PUNCH Metro learnt that Alapa was flogging the girl for a misdemeanor around 3am last Monday when she passed out and died afterwards.

At the Ikorodu General Hospital morgue where she had gone to deposit Mbafan’s corpse, a doctor on duty was said to have noticed marks of violence on the body and alerted the police at the Sagamu Road Division.

A police source told our correspondent that after interrogation, Alapa confessed to beating the girl, adding that she would be charged with murder.

“She wanted to absolve herself of the death of the victim, but for the doctor on duty who raised the alarm after a close examination and she was arrested. There are marks of violence on the body of the deceased and she did not deny beating her.”

Some residents of Bolanle Oduniyi Street, who spoke to PUNCH Metro on Wednesday, said they had warned her many times to desist from assaulting the victim to no avail.

A neighbour of the suspect said Alapa did not only beat the girl but also starved her of food.

The woman, who gave her name only as Ellen, said although she did not know what led to the beating on that day, “she usually beat the girl for messing up their apartment.”

“Around 3am on the day the girl died, I heard her crying as the woman (Alapa) flogged her. I woke up my husband to intervene. He said he was tired of the woman’s insults. After a while, she stopped crying.

“It was when I came back from work that afternoon that I saw a crowd on our premises in tears. They said Joy (Mbafan) was dead. The woman’s husband was not at home that day. It was the landlord that told him about the incident on the telephone.”

The landlord and Alapa’s husband were not around when our correspondent visited the residence on Wednesday. The Alapas’ apartment was locked.

Another resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the girl’s father was late while her mother was ill, adding that Alapa had brought her to Lagos from a village in the eastern part of Nigeria.

“But she used to beat up and starve the girl of food. On several occasions, the girl would come to me to eat, saying her aunty did not give her food.”

Lamenting Mbafan’s death, a trader in the area, who identified herself only as Deborah, told PUNCH Metro that she had urged the suspect to counsel Mbafan rather than apply corporal punishment.

She said, “She made that little girl to lose self-confidence. Her body bore marks of lashes. Now that the girl is dead, she should also face the music.”

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, in a text message, said, “I confirm the case. The suspect is under investigation while the corpse has been deposited in a morgue for autopsy.”
